This statue called “Child Eater” (you can probably guess as to why) can be found standing in the middle of Bern, Switzerland, is the Kindlifresse. It was built in 1546, but no-one is sure as to why. One of the theories is that it is the representation of  anti-Semitism. The Kindlifresser wears a hat that is strikingly similar to the yellow pointed Judenhut that Jews were forced to wear at that time. The baby-eating may reflect blood libel, the belief that Jewish people kidnapped Christian children to use their blood in rituals.

Another theory is that it represents Kronos, the Greek Titan. If you don’t already know, Kronos eats all 6 of his children to keep his throne.

And another theory is that this statue is just a boogie-man that eats kids. It stands there to teach kids to behave, and it seems to be working for about 500 years.
